Desmond Hui received his BArch from Cornell University, MPhil and PhD from Cambridge. He was the Director of the Centre for Cultural Policy Research at the University of Hong Kong. He has held appointment as Research Fellow of St Edmund’s College, University of Cambridge and Guest Scholar at the Canadian Center for Architecture. He is presently member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and registered architect of Ontario, Canada and Hong Kong. He is author and editor of several public research studies and reports in Hong Kong and has served as advisor for various government, public and tertiary institutions including the HK Arts Development Council, the HK Council for Academic Accreditation and the Antiquities Advisory Board and Commission on Strategic Development.

許焯權於美國康奈爾大學取得建築學士和英國劍橋大學哲學碩士及博士。他曾任香港大學文化政策研究中心總監、英國劍橋大學聖愛文學院院士以及蒙特利爾加拿大建築中心訪問學人。目前他是英國文化協會創意產業小組顧問、聯合國跨部工作小組文化產業研究顧問、加拿大以及香港註冊建築師。他曾撰寫多個香港公共研究項目及報告，亦為多個政府部門、公營及學術機構擔任顧問和委員，包括香港藝術發展局、香港學術評審局、古物諮詢委員會及策略發展委員會等。
